Sunflower
Sunflower
Floriography
In Greek mythology, the tale of Clytie and Apollo offers a poignant explanation for sunflowers' behaviour as they track the movement of the sun. Clytie, a water nymph, harboured a deep affection for Apollo, the god of sun and light. Unfortunately for Clytie, Apollo's heart was captured by her sister and romantic rival, Leucothoe. Consumed by jealousy, Clytie disclosed the relationship between Apollo and Leucothoe to their father, sparking Apollo's rage. In his anger, Apollo transformed Clytie into a sunflower.
Despite her metamorphosis, Clytie's unwavering love and loyalty endured and followed his path across the sky, like sunflowers move to face the sun. Sunflowers symbolise this enduring devotion and serve as a reminder of loyalty, devotion, and appreciation.
